Frequently asked questions about our MEP permit services in the United States
Learn everything you need to know about our residential engineering services, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical permit plans across the United States.
What documents do I need to provide to get started?
We typically need your house plans or architectural drawings, project specifications, and any existing MEP drawings if available. If you don’t have complete drawings, our team can work with basic floor plans and help determine what additional information is needed.
What is the turnaround time?
Standard turnaround is 2-3 business days.
Do you work with all U.S. building codes and jurisdictions?
Yes, we have experience with building codes across all 50 states. Our team stays current with local amendments and specific requirements for different jurisdictions. We’ll ensure your plans meet the specific codes required by your local building department.
What's the difference between your service packages?
Individual services focus on specific systems (HVAC, plumbing, or electrical), while our Full MEP Construction Set provides comprehensive plans for all systems with detailed layouts, calculations, schedules, and technical specifications – everything needed for permit approval and construction.
What if my plans need revisions after submission?
Minor revisions based on building department comments are typically included. For significant changes or additional scope, we provide transparent pricing for any additional work required. We work with you to ensure your plans get approved.
Can you help with permit submission to my local building department?
We provide all the MEP drawings and calculations needed for permit submission. While we don’t submit permits directly, we can provide guidance on the submission process and are available to address any technical questions from your building department.
Do you provide sealed/stamped drawings?
Yes, in New Jersey, New York and Florida. In other states we provide unsealed Manual J, S, D and HVAC plans, which most building departments accept for homes. If your town requires a seal we can’t provide, we’ll tell you before you pay.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards, bank transfers, and business checks. Payment is typically required 50% upfront and 50% upon completion. For larger projects, we can discuss custom payment schedules.
What if I'm not sure exactly what services I need?
No problem! Contact our team with your project details, and we’ll help you determine exactly which services are required for your specific permit application. We can review your plans and provide recommendations based on your local requirements.
Do you handle commercial projects?
While PermitMyHouse focuses specifically on residential projects, our parent company MS Mechanical LLC handles commercial MEP design. For commercial projects, please visit msmechanicalllc.com or contact us for a referral.
